The Wellness Wheel

We Strive For Balance…..

The Wellness Wheel is a tool you can use to cultivate balance and sustain total wellbeing. It isn’t fancy – it doesn’t have a fancy name and I doubt you will see it used in its true form on Oprah’s LifeClass.  What you will find with the Wellness Wheel is simplicity – easy to use and a simple way to show you what you can do to swing the pendulum towards greater balance in your life and increase awareness.

I want to credit  http://www.health-womens-healthy-living-goals.com/wellness-wheel-health-womans.html. I like how they describe the wellness wheel and the many tools they have available.  I utilize many of them in my own work. Thank you!

What does it look like?

Understanding the Spokes of the Wheel

Physical Wellness is developing healthy activities that benefit your body such as nutritious eating and exercise, supplements and having a good health care provider for you.

Work/Career Wellness is about finding satisfaction in your work. Ensuring your work environment and relationships are comfortable and can support your lifestyle needs.

Emotional Wellness focuses on taking care of yourself and developing ways to enhance your inner resources. It is paying attention to elements such as self-expression, stress reduction and relaxation.

Financial Wellness is about taking care of your finances, being informed and educated, not over spending or under spending. It’s about being aware of your financial portfolio, credit reports, etc.

Personal and Family Relationships Wellness finding balance with the time you spend with your family and friends. Building those relationships, setting healthy boundaries as needed and tending to your needs along the way.

Social Wellness is developing healthy relationships with those around you. It is about contributing to and getting to know your community. It may mean more time spent at the Farmer’s Market.

Spirituality Wellness enhances the connection between your mind and body. Participating good for your soul nourishing activities.  It is about integrating your spiritual beliefs into your everyday life.

How to Use The Wellness Wheel

  • Use a glass or cup, draw yourself a circle, similar to the one illustrated above.
  • Next, draw the 7 spokes on the wheel.  The center of the wheel is ’0′ and the outer edges are 10, then filling each spoke with a colored pencil that represents where you feel you are to each spoke.
  • Your circle may look something like the one below if you were using a 4-spoke wheel. This will give you an idea of how to measure your 7 spoke wheel.
  • The wheel is designed to assess where you are now at this present time and not where you would ideally want to be. The lower the number represents a low-level of satisfaction in that area. For example you are building a business and are spending a significant amount of time on your career. Yet, you may be neglecting the time you need to spend with family. When you can see it on the wellness wheel it can help you understand what you need to do next.

When you give it a low number you are immediately shown the areas that you need to spend more time on.  Simple as that.  The key to utilizing the wellness wheel is to achieve holistic health and wellness. To maintain or improve your wellness quotient in the areas represented in the wheel. You become your own wellness monitor.

So What Happens Next?

Using the example I gave above you will want to set-up some goals for increasing the time you spend with Family and Friends.  How?  See the S.M.A.R.T. Goals below:

S.M.A.R.T Goals stand for:

Specific: Be as precise as possible. What do you want to achieve and within what time frame.
Measurable: How will you measure your success?
Achievable: Is this goal realistically attainable?
Relevant: How or Why is this goal important to the success of your company?
Timely: When do you hope to achieve each goal?

After you set-up your goals you will want someone to hold you accountable.  Accountability is the missing piece for most people. It is that which makes you achieve success or become discouraged.  Because I know how important Accountability is I have created an offer for you:
